Before we attempt to answer this question, we wish to note that a curious silence has enveloped the subject of gold in recent weeks. Attention and Wall Street/media "buzz" has been focussed elsewhere: OIL, interest rates, the next FED "move" (as if there is any logic or predictability in the "moves" of our increasingly erratic central bank), the perceived pandemic of inflation, the state of the Chinese economy and market, the forthcoming direction of the stock market in coming months, weeks, days, hours, nanoseconds, whatever.
The hotter the more intense the focus, and the greater the inundation of typically useless verbiage and "forecasting." It has been our observation that the "colder" a topic, the greater the utility in analyzing it closely.
